Reviewing author details

 

The Author details page provides information about an author's:

  • Research areas
  • Publishing and citation information
  • Name variants
  •  Unique Scopus identifier number
  • ORCID (if available)

Analyzing author output

 

To review an author's performance, please analyze her/his research outputs. Please follow these steps to do research output analysis.

  1. Run an author search.
  2. From the list of results, select the author you would like to analyze.
  3. Click ‘Analyze author output’ in the author summary information.

"The h-index is based on the highest number of papers included that have had at least the same number of citations" (Elsevier). 

The graph includes two lines: h-index and the 450 line:

  • The h-index: The number citations received for each of the articles in descending order.
  • The 450 line:  The number of citations equal to the number of articles.

 

Follow these steps to change the date range of articles included in an h-index:

  • From the ‘Analyze documents published between’ drop-down, select a beginning and ending date range. 
  • Click ‘Update Graph’.

 

Magnifying data points

  • If data points on the graph are bunched together and are not discernable, click and drag on a data point on the graph to make it easier to read.
  • Click ‘Reset zoom’ to return to the original magnification of the chart.

 

Excluding self-citations or book citations from an h-index

To remove author self-citations or book citations from an h-index, select one of the following options and click ‘Update Graph’.

  • ‘Exclude self citations’-
  • ‘Exclude citations from books’

 

The Citations tab displays the number of citations the author has received for their publications

To view citing documents for a specific year, do one of the following:

  • Click a data point in the bar graph to open a documents results list.
  • Click the number of documents in the table to open a documents results list.
  • Place your mouse pointer over a graph point to view year and number of published documents for a source title.

 

Co-author tab lists the number of documents written by an author's most frequent co-authors.

 

  • Sort co-author list: The co-author list is sorted ascending alphabetical order. Click the sort icon to change the alphabetical sort order.
  • Review co-authors: Click a co-author's name to open their associated author details page.
  • Review co-authored documents: Click on a number beside a co-author's name to review a list of documents that he or she published as a co-author.
  • Review co-authors total documents: Click on the ‘View Total Documents’ link beside a co-author's name to review a total list of documents that he or she published.

Export document information

  1. From the Analyze author output page, click the ‘Documents’ tab.
  2. From the Documents tab, select one of the following sort methods and its associated chart by source, type, year, subject area, etc.
  3. From the Analyze author output page, click ‘Export’. A drop-down list opens with the following options:
    • Export the chart to a zip file 
    • Export the data to a csv file 
  4. Select the export method. Scopus will export the selected information.

Export an h-index

  1. From the Analyze author output page, click the ‘h-index’ tab.
  2. From the h-index tab, update the graph, if necessary.
  3. From the Analyze author output page, click ‘Export’.
  4. Select the export method. Scopus will export the selected information.

Export citation information

Follow these steps to export citation information:

  1. From the Analyze author output page, click the ‘Citations’ tab.
  2. From the Citations tab, update the graph, if necessary.
  3. From the Analyze author output page, click ‘Export’
  4. Select the export method. Scopus will export the selected information according to your export method.

Export co-author information

Follow these steps to export co-author information:

  1. From the Analyze author output page, click the ‘Co-authors’ tab.
  2. From the Co-authors tab, modify the alphabetical sort order of the Co-author or Co-authored Documents list, if necessary.
  3. From the Analyze author output page, click ‘Export’
  4. Select the export method. Scopus will export the selected information according to your export method.

Revising Author Profiles

We can use the Author Feedback Wizard to request changes or updates to the information on the Scopus Author details page. 

To open Author Feedback Wizard, please :

  1. Perform an Author search and select an author name to open the Author details page.
  2. Select 'Edit profile'; and  select if you are the author or making a request on the behalf of the author.
  3. Select 'Continue'The Author Feedback Wizard opens.


Remove documents from an author profile

  1. From the author feedback wizard, select 'Documents'.
  2. Locate the document(s) to remove from the author profile.
  3. Select 'Remove from profile' for each document to be removed, then  'Review changes' button.
  4. Select 'Submit request' to submit the change for review

Add documents to an author profile

  1. From the author feedback wizard, select 'Documents'.
  2. Locate the missing document(s) in Scopus:

    Note: You can also select from the list of recommended documents. Select 'Add to profile' to add any documents to your Author Feedback Wizard document list.

    1. Below the document list, select 'Search for missing documents on Scopus'. The Search missing documents popup opens.
    2. Enter your search term in the Search field.
    3.  From the Search by drop-down, select the type of search term entered: Article title, DOI, PubMedID, etc.
    4. Select 'Search'.
    5. From the result list, select the document(s) to add to your Author Feedback Wizard document list.
    6. Select 'Confirm Author'.
  3. Select the author associated with the document.
  4. Select 'Add document', then 'Review changes' button.
  5. Select 'Submit request' to submit the change for review.

    Note: Select 'Continue editing' to return to the Author Feedback Wizard and continue making changes.

 

  1. Perform an Author search and  select the author names to merge.
  2. Select 'Request to merge authors'. The Author Feedback Wizard opens.
  3. Select the author details to merge:
    1. From the Preferred name drop-down, select the desired name format of the author.
    2. From the Current affiliation drop-down, select the desired affiliation.
  4. Add or removed documents to be merged:
  5. Select one of the available options and click 'Continue'. The Author Feedback Wizard opens and displays the list of documents for the author profiles to be merged.
    Optional: Locate any missing documents from the author profiles to be merged
    Optional: Add profiles to be merged
  6. Review the documents and click 'Review affiliation'. The Review affiliation form opens. Scopus provides a suggested affiliation for the merged author profiles, but you have the option to select from the drop-down list.
  7. Select an affiliation and click 'Confirm and Submit'. The Confirm page opens.
  8. Review the information then click 'Submit'.

Remove awarded grants from an author profile

  1. From the author feedback wizard, select 'Awarded grants'.
  2. Locate the awarded grants to remove from the author profile.
  3. Select 'Remove from profile'.
  4. Select the 'Review changes' button.
  5. Select 'Submit request' to submit the change for review

 

Add awarded grants from an author profile

  1. From the author feedback wizard, select 'Awarded grants'.
  2. Locate the missing awarded grants in Scopus:
    1. Below the awarded grants list, select 'Search for missing awarded grants on Scopus'. The Search missing awarded grants popup opens.
    2. Enter your search term in the Search field.
    3. From the Search by drop-down, select the type of search term entered:  Grant title, funder, Grant ID, etc.
    4. Select 'Search'.
    5. Locate the missing awarded grants and select 'Add to profile' for each missing grant.
    6. Select 'Confirm Author'.
  3. Select the author associated with the awarded grants.
  4. Select 'Add awarded grant'.
  5. Select 'Submit request' to submit the change for review.

    Note: Select 'Continue editing' to return to the Author Feedback Wizard and continue making changes.
