Books @ VinUni Library: ProQuest Ebook Central

Things you need to know about finding and using books in VinUni Library.

Book details

After clicking the link Ebook Central Perpetual, DDA and Subsription Titles, you will get to the ebook.

At a glance you can see:

  • How many copies are available at your institution
  • If the title is currently available. 
  • If the title is available for full title download
  • PDF chapter downloads
  • Copy and print allowances
  • View chapter page range and page count details
  • Pages remaining for PDF chapter printing/download
  • The Table of Contents and expandable book description
  • Full set of bibliographic data, including series and edition, expandable to include full bibliographic details

Note: The online allowances for the title  are set by the publisher and details how many pages you can copy, print or chapter download in a 24 hour period. Once the 24 hours is up, the number of pages are reset and you may print, copy and chapter download the full allowances again.

Downloading ProQuest Ebook Central e-books

You need to create a free personal account in ProQuest EBook Central to download books. (Please note that your VinUni student ID can not be used for this)

DOWNLOAD A CHAPTER

To download a chapter of a book, from the book detail page click on Download PDF Chapter or scroll down to the table of contents and click Download PDF button.

Some e-book titles have limited concurrent user access. When  the availability shows that “Your institution has access to 1 copy of this book”, you can not download the whole books but chapters only in PDF format.

DOWNLOAD FULL EBOOKS (if the option is available)

Click on Download Book to "borrow" a copy on your computer, tablet or mobile device. The downloaded file will expire at the end of your loan. You can reborrow the ebook to continue reading. You will need 

  • A compatible device: Includes desktop computers, iOS/Android mobile devices, and most ereaders (not Kindle)
  • A free, basic software to read Adobe DRM (Digital Rights Management) files: Use Adobe Digital Editions or your favorite compatible ebook reader app. Please follow this instruction to create a free Adobe ID

NotesAll downloaded pdf files will be for personal  and private use only. Not any part of the book can be transmitted or reproduced without authors/publishers’ permissions.

You can read the ebooks online directly without the need to download them first.

Printing and copying

Printing and copying activities should follow allowances for each book that are displayed on both the Book Details page.

These online allowances are per book and reset after a 24 hour period. As you copy pages, print or download pages in PDF, your online allowances will count down. Once you reach your limit, you will have to wait 24 hours before the allowances reset.

ProQuest Ebook Central is an Ebook Platform providing authoritative ebooks for our user. ,Ebooks whose availability message says Ebook Central Perpetual, DDA and Suscription Titles, are those with perpetual access. Please follow this guide to use these ebooks.

Accesses to ebooks in Proquest Ebook Central are available for VinUni's students, faculty and staff only. If you are a VinUni's students, faculty and staff  with a valid VinUni account you can browse, read an ebook online, save ebook sections as a PDF or copy text, download an ebook to your own computer or electronic device.

If you're outside VinUni campus you'll need to log in with your valid VinUni account to start reading the ebooks.

Notes: 

If a book has limited user access and all available copies are in use, you will encounter a "0 copies available" message. Try again later.

When the book availability shows as “Your institution has access to 1 copy of this book”,  you are recommended:

  1. Click on ProQuest Ebook Central Download PDF button in Table of Contents to save PDF of an allowable portion of the book (your allowances refreshes after 24 hours.) 
  2. Promptly close the browser or exit the ebook to free up ebook access for other users.

Cengage's ebooks on the Proquest platform which are subscribed after September 2020 will NOT allow printing, copying, and PDF chapter downloading. Users can only read the book online, which means when a copy is being read by a student it will not be available for access by other students.
